WATER-RESISTANT UNDERLAYMENT
For
a roof to last, your roofing system must include protection from
wind-driven rain. This is accomplished by installing water-resistant
underlayment directly beneath the shingles.
WeatherLock® Series self-adhesive water-resistant underlayment
is perfect for both new construction and reroofing projects. In
addition to protecting the roof deck from damage from ice dams and
wind-driven rain, WeatherLock should also be used on areas of the
roof where water has a tendency to collect or flow. Valleys, vents,
chimneys and skylights are examples of where WeatherLock Series
underlayment should be considered.
You
can see by the photos that WeatherLock® is installed generally
around the perimeter and in areas that are seceptable to water and
moisture. The majority of your roof decking will be covered with
felt paper (tar paper). Most roofers will use what is called a 15lb
felt paper. It's more affordable and easier to work with. However,
at Patton, we're not looking for an easier installation, we're looking
for the best possible protection for your home. As a standard we
use double the poundage of what everyone else uses. A 30lb felt
paper will provide more protection to your home for the life of
the roof.

About Our Roofing System

Most people think of a new roof as just banging up
some shingles. But savvy homeowners know better! Today, effective
roofing relies on advanced material technology and an integrated
systems approach to protect your biggest asset - your home.
A system is an installation process that protects
everything within the system. Each process has it's own job protecting
and ensuring the best possible scenarios. It's a team of materials
protecting you, your home and yes, even each other.
For optimum durability and beauty, a complete and
healthy roofing system requires hip & ridge shingles, ventilation
products, shingles, and water-resistant underlayment.
